Holy Communion is a part of all worship services on the first Sunday of the month.

If you are attending the online worship service, we know you won’t have the exact same elements that we use when we are in worship in the sanctuary. Gather any variety or wine or fruit juice, and any kind of bread product.

If you are receiving communion at any worship service, please complete an electronic communion card.

Are you able to help serve communion? Sunday Worship Volunteers are needed! Please complete this form get on our volunteer list.  Form

WebpageSunday School

Sunday School is offered for age 3 to grade 5 during the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services.

Zion's Sunday School program follows a large group/small group model. Children will begin in worship with their families and then attend Sunday School after the Children's Message. When the children’s message is over, kids will gather for large group time to join in fun music, videos, activities, and skits to learn about the bible stories. After large group, kids will then follow their teachers to a classroom for small group time. Small group time is a time to dig deeper, ask questions, make crafts, do experiments, build friendships, and strengthen our relationship with God.

Storytime with Jesus is a social opportunity at Zion for families with young children.  This is for all caregivers and children at Zion and in the wider community.  In other words: you do not need to be a member to attend---all are welcome!

The focus is on children learning through stories, songs, and play that Jesus loves them.

When?
First & third Tuesday of each month at 9:15 am to 10:30 am, in Trinity Hall. If you can’t be here by 9:15, come anyway!

9:15-9:30    Arrival.  Kids play and socialize.
9:30-9:45    Learn through song and movement.
9:45-10:00   Storytime.
10:00-10:20  Fun activity, snack, socialize.
10:20-10:30  Clean up

Families are welcome to join this new opportunity for a themed story time each month.  Caregivers are encouraged to socialize while the children learn and play together.   No registration required, just come and enjoy!

~To tell the old, old story  Of Jesus and his love.~

New Member Orientation

You are invited to attend New Member Connect. This is for both those who are brand new to Zion and those who have been around for many years and just not gotten around to becoming an official member.

Membership is one way of connecting to this faith community.  Membership affirms that we are connected together for the mission of this congregation and for the mutual development of our faith in Christ Jesus. “New Member Connect” is an opportunity to spend time in conversation with Zion pastors, staff, and others and to find out more about our mission and vision before committing to membership.

Gather in the Sacred Grounds youth room, where we will have a comfortable spot waiting for you! Children are welcome and the nursery is open and staffed during this time as well. Coffee, juice, and light breakfast choices will be provided.

Scott David Berthiaume, 61 of Big Lake, bravely lost his battle to cancer and stepped into heaven’s realms on March 9th at with his wife, Shelley at his side.

Scott was born to Harry and Margaret Berthiaume of Monticello, MN, on July 6, 1964. He grew up on a farm and enjoyed the country life. He was baptized and  later confirmed at the Methodist Church in Monticello. He graduated high school in 1982.

He met his soulmate, Shelley Brown, December 21, 1984 at the Monte Club. They married May 29, 1987 in Buffalo.  A love story that spanned 38 years and 10 months.

Scott and Shelley lived in Buffalo until 1993, where they made their home in Big Lake.

Two of Scott’s greatest joys were his girls, Chyanne and Mariah.  They truly made life worthwhile. And, life became richer and doubled in happiness when he became a “Papa” to Shane and Blake. Scott loved the men in his daughters’ lives, Nick and Jake, who became like the sons he never had.

Scott worked for years in the computer networking field until 2015. Scott went into business for himself and opened up VIP Painting & Staining. VIP stands for “value, integrity, performance.” Not just a name, but words he lived by.

Scott’s light always shined bright. Happy, smiling and joking were just his way. He “never met a stranger.” He truly loved people and it showed. To say he had a few friends would be an understatement.

Scott was honest and fiercely loyal. He was NEVER afraid to voice his thoughts. A few qualities people loved about him.

Helping was his second nature. People or animals, it didn’t matter.

He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

A cowboy at heart. He had every book Louie L’Amour ever wrote and watched every John Wayne movie. He loved horses and was a natural in the saddle.

A dedicated Minnesota Viking’s and Twin’s fan, regardless of the season.

Most of all, he loved home. It was where he always wanted to be. He traveled and enjoyed vacations, but home is where his heart was.

Scott is survived by his loving wife, Shelley, daughters; Chyanne (Nick) Blumenshine of Becker. Mariah Berthiaume (Jake Erickson) of Rogers.   Grandchildren, Shane and Blake Blumenshine of Becker; Brother, Ron (Gayle) Berthiaume of Englewood, FL; sister, Mary Schmidt of Maple Lake; brothers-in-law, David (Susie) Brown of Buffalo, Les LeMieux of Maple Lake, Jerry Simpson (Barb Starken) of Monticello and Darryl Carlson of Blackduck; sister-in-law, Linda Vollbrecht of Big Lake. Many nieces and nephews, cousins, and LOTS of friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Larry Berthiaume, sisters; Barb LeMieux, Vera Raumer, Bonnie Carlson and Joy Simpson.

A favorite saying from Scott. “Glad you got to see me. I know it’s been a slice of heaven for you!”

The service is as follows. The wake will be, Friday, March 20, 2026, 4pm-8pm at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo. A Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday, March 21st at Zion Lutheran in Buffalo at 12pm, with visitation an hour before. Luncheon to follow.  Zion Livestream

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
