Looking to serve the community this season?
The Buffalo Rotary is organizing Adopt A Family for those living in the Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose (BHM) School District. This is a program that connects People who request holiday gifts with Donors who provided gifts.

After recipients fill out a form with some wish lists, Donors then purchase gifts which are distributed in early December!

If you’re interested in Adopting a family to buy Christmas gifts for, please fill out this form and you’ll drop off gifts at the Buffalo Methodist Church on December 7th from 1-3pm.

Storytime with Jesus is a social opportunity at Zion for families with young children.  This is for all caregivers and children at Zion and in the wider community.  In other words: you do not need to be a member to attend---all are welcome!

The focus is on children learning through stories, songs, and play that Jesus loves them.

When?
First & third Tuesday of each month at 9:15 am to 10:30 am, in Trinity Hall. If you can’t be here by 9:15, come anyway!

9:15-9:30    Arrival.  Kids play and socialize.
9:30-9:45    Learn through song and movement.
9:45-10:00   Storytime.
10:00-10:20  Fun activity, snack, socialize.
10:20-10:30  Clean up

Families are welcome to join this new opportunity for a themed story time each month.  Caregivers are encouraged to socialize while the children learn and play together.   No registration required, just come and enjoy!

~To tell the old, old story  Of Jesus and his love.~

Confirmation for students in 6th - 8th grade will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:45pm beginning October 1.
  • All incoming 6th graders and new to confirmation students are being asked to register HERE.
  • Those previously enrolled need not register again.

Confirmation isn’t just an academic process or a requirement for membership at Zion. It’s about forming Christ-followers. Confirmation at Zion is a carefully designed program – one that is designed to bring youth to a closer understanding of God’s Word, their savior Jesus Christ, and the Church as a whole.

Prayer Shawl Ministry
The prayer shawl ministry (knitters and crocheters) meets in the prayer room on the first and third Thursdays of each month, from 1:00-3:00pm.  If you are unable to attend the meeting but still want to participate, contact the office to be included on email communications.

Prayer shawls are made full of prayers for the recipients. Our hope is that when the shawl is worn, they can feel the warmth of Jesus’ support, guidance and love.
If you know of someone who would benefit from receiving a prayer shawl, please contact the Zion office.

Sunday School is offered for age 3 to grade 5 during the 8:30 and 10:30 worship services.

Zion's Sunday School program follows a large group/small group model. Children will begin in worship with their families and then attend Sunday School after the Children's Message. When the children’s message is over, kids will gather for large group time to join in fun music, videos, activities, and skits to learn about the bible stories. After large group, kids will then follow their teachers to a classroom for small group time. Small group time is a time to dig deeper, ask questions, make crafts, do experiments, build friendships, and strengthen our relationship with God.

The yearly meeting of the congregation is an opportunity to gather together to give thanks to God for the blessings of the past year and to look forward to our shared mission together for the next year and beyond. This is the business meeting of the congregation where we vote on the spending plan/budget for the coming year, elect members of the council and various other leadership roles. The Council serves as the governing body of the congregation between annual meetings and any special meetings that may be called.  Zion generally holds the annual meeting the first or second week of December, but it can take place in either November or December according to the ZLC Constitution. All voting members are encouraged to attend the Annual Meeting.

Lucia

St Lucia
This year's St. Lucia celebration will begin with a program at 6:30pm in the sanctuary on Monday, December 15. After the program, we will celebrate this year with lots of Scandinavian treats. Santa Lucia and her court will be ready to treat you to fresh homemade Lucia rolls! Eat your early evening meal at home but save room for plenty of krumkake, rosettes, lefse, rice pudding, cookies, and other treats that will be waiting for you in the fellowship hall after the program. You will have the chance to make a woven heart to take home.

To accommodate families, the festivities will be finished by 8pm. There's no charge for the Lucia event. Invite friends and neighbors for a wonderful night of treats, music and stories. Child care will be provided if requested.

Christmas! Soft falling snow, kids with rosy cheeks, and choirs singing sweetly: “Jesus Christ is Born”. Those are the best of times, but for some, Christmas can become the saddest of times. For some, all the joy feels disingenuous. For those missing loved ones, overwhelmed by life, or for those who feel disconnected or lonely, this time of year can be especially difficult.

You are invited to gather in the Chapel/Library for a tradition called “Blue Christmas.” It is a quiet, reflective worship service for any who feel a disconnect between Christmas joy and how they are really feeling. God is the source of all love, care, and grace in our lives, so let us gather to worship Him. We will pray together, lighten our burdens, and share the reality that Christmas time isn’t always “Merry and Bright”, but even so, God is with us.
